For more detailed information, please contact our office via e-mail [email protected] or call us at 828-692-1359.
The Village of Flat Rock - Known as "Little Charleston of the Mountains," this charming community is a delightful outgrowth of its distinguished history. Wealthy rice planters from Charleston, South Carolina settled Flat Rock in the early 1800s. They built magnificent summer homes (many of which stand today) for their families to escape the heat and malaria threat of low-country summers. The culture, refinement and worldliness those first resident brought to this community is still in evidence today and is wonderfully expressed through Highland Lake's graceful neighborhoods, tastefully quaint commercial area and the generous, community-oriented spirit of those more than 2,600 people who call it home.
Downtown Hendersonville - While so many communities lost the vitality of their downtowns to malls and strip centers in 1970s, the people of Hendersonville made a concerted effort to preserve theirs. The result is a charming and historic eight-block district that bustles with commerce and social activity. It is where residents and tourists alike come to shop for everything from books to clothes to pastries. It's where community events-such as Music on Main, the North Carolina Apple Festival, and Trick Or Treat-happen. It's where people come to dine, dance and enjoy themselves in an ever-growing variety of fine restaurants, casual eateries and nightclubs. Historic Downtown Hendersonville is the beating heart of a lively and active community.
The Surrounding Area - Though there is always some event taking place in Henderson County, the cities and wilderness areas surrounding our county expand your choices for culture and outdoor recreation even further. Highland Lake is within 30 minutes of Asheville, N.C., home to the Biltmore Estate, eclectic shops, a well-supported art community and fabulously diverse restaurants. It is within 30 minutes of Greenville, S.C., with a strong business community, great downtown festivals, and the Peace Center. It is within 30 minutes of Pisgah National Forest and many state forests with top venues for just about every outdoor activity you can think of. It is within 30 minutes of Brevard Music Center-where every summer world-renowned artists perform. And it's within 30 minutes of so much more. In one day here, you can literally take an awe-inspiring hike or play a round of golf on a championship course in the afternoon; enjoy a world-class meal; and take in a major show, a symphony or a ballet that evening.

For film lovers, downtown features a fine arts film house-the Skyland Arts Cinema-and The Hendersonville Film Society shows high-quality foreign films weekly. Throughout the year, residents also enjoy and support numerous art shows, gallery openings and special performances.
